COMMUNITY GUIDELINES & MEMBERSHIP GUIDE

Shared standards.
Stronger together.

Mettelo is a developing professional ecosystem for Data, AI and Technology. Practical learning, collaboration, technical contributions, leadership and career development work best with mutual respect and accountability.

01 / Membership & access

Find your place
in the community.

Membership and participation are for adults aged 18 or over. Mettelo is operated by Mettelo Technologies Limited.

Membership, access to a private space and participation in a project are separate steps. Apply for the community first if you want to join; use the project participation form when you want to express interest in a project.

Public visitors
Explore public pages, resources and workshops. Visiting the website does not grant access to private spaces.
Membership applicants
Apply through the membership form. Submission does not automatically approve membership or unlock private channels.
Approved community members
Participate in the spaces for which access has been granted, following the rules of each service and community space.
Project participants & contributors
Express project interest separately, agree a role with the relevant team and follow that project’s contribution instructions.
Volunteers & project leaders
Express interest in sharing expertise or coordinating work. Opportunities depend on availability and applicable review processes.
An application is a starting point.

Completing the membership form does not automatically grant access to private community spaces. Follow the access and review instructions provided by each space.

02 / Community standards

Good collaboration
starts with how we work.

Use these practical standards in discussions, workshops, mentoring, project teams and shared repositories.

01

Respect the person

Communicate professionally, recognise different backgrounds and experience levels, and respect personal boundaries. Harassment, discrimination, threats and personal attacks have no place here.

02

Make discussion inclusive

Ask questions in good faith, explain unfamiliar terms and give others space to contribute. Challenge ideas with evidence rather than dismissing people.

03

Act with integrity

Be honest about your experience, work and intentions. Do not fabricate results, plagiarise material or use the community to mislead others.

04

Share information responsibly

Do not post private conversations, personal details, credentials or confidential work without appropriate permission. Check before forwarding material outside its original space.

05

Credit work and respect ownership

Attribute code, datasets, ideas and learning materials to their sources. Follow applicable licences and permissions; community access does not give you ownership of someone else’s work.

06

Use resources for their purpose

Keep posts relevant to the space, use the right channels and respect access restrictions. Avoid spam, repeated unsolicited messages and inappropriate or unrelated promotion.

07

Use AI with care

Review and verify AI-assisted work before sharing it. Disclose material AI assistance when it affects how others assess the work, and follow project-specific rules. Do not put personal, confidential or restricted data into AI tools without appropriate permission.

08

Own your contribution

Agree responsibilities before committing, communicate progress and make your work understandable to others. If your availability changes, say so early and support a clear handover.

09

Give feedback people can use

Be specific, constructive and focused on the work. Explain your reasoning, accept questions and handle disagreement without hostility or pressure.

10

Protect a professional environment

Do not share abusive, discriminatory or inappropriate content. Ask before promoting an offering, recruiting or repeatedly contacting members; respect a request to stop.

03 / Learning, workshops & mentoring

Learn openly.
Respect the space.

  • Arrive prepared, follow session instructions and make room for different levels of experience.
  • Ask relevant questions, share useful knowledge and let facilitators manage the discussion.
  • Give peer feedback that identifies what works, what could improve and why.
  • Respect facilitators’ and mentors’ time. Agree expectations and availability rather than assuming individual support is guaranteed.
  • When facilitating, make the purpose clear, credit source material and support respectful participation.
  • Record, redistribute or publish session content only with appropriate permission from the facilitator and anyone affected. Respect restrictions on learning materials.

Mentoring and peer review depend on community participation and availability; this website does not provide a booking system.

04 / Projects & GitHub collaboration

Contribute clearly.
Help your team deliver.

Browse the Project Library before expressing interest. Participation and leadership opportunities depend on project availability and applicable review processes.

Agree ownership

Confirm your role, tasks and expected outcomes with the team. Leaders should clarify responsibilities, coordinate decisions and support contributors.

Keep communication useful

Share progress, respect agreed deadlines and communicate blockers or changes in availability early. Do not leave a team guessing about unfinished work.

Work in the repository’s way

Read its contribution instructions. Use branches, issues and pull requests as directed; request peer review and respond constructively before merging where review is required.

Make work safe to share

Credit shared code and datasets, check licences and access permissions, and keep credentials or restricted information out of commits. Document decisions and handovers.

05 / Professional evidence & career development

Show your work.
Represent it accurately.

Learning notes, technical projects, documentation, leadership and peer collaboration can help you explain your skills and experience. Keep a record of your responsibilities, outputs and feedback, with permission to share the material.

Describe your own contribution honestly, acknowledge collaborators and distinguish a community project from a formal employment role. Do not claim verified experience, employment status or an endorsement without an appropriate basis. Integrated Mettelo Proof remains in development.

Be clear about what participation means.
  • Mettelo membership does not guarantee employment.
  • Project applications do not guarantee placement.
  • Participation does not automatically constitute paid employment.
  • Community participation must not be misrepresented as formal employment or verified experience.
06 / Privacy, safety & responsible data handling

Share knowledge.
Protect information.

  • Share only the personal information needed for the activity; avoid publishing your own or someone else’s sensitive details.
  • Check whether a dataset is public, licensed for your use and suitable for the task. Respect project-specific access restrictions.
  • Use anonymised, synthetic or appropriately authorised data where possible. Do not upload confidential employer, client or community material without permission.
  • Keep passwords, tokens and other credentials out of messages, documents and repositories.
  • Before sharing screenshots, recordings or portfolio evidence, check for personal details, private discussions and restricted data.
07 / Reporting issues & community moderation

Raise concerns.
Handle them with care.

If a community space already identifies moderators and a reporting option, use that established route. Avoid posting sensitive reports publicly. Include the relevant facts, context and links you are permitted to share; do not speculate about people’s motives.

How concerns are considered

We consider concerns professionally, fairly and with appropriate discretion. Share report information only with people who need it to assess or address the concern; do not promise absolute confidentiality.

Depending on seriousness, context and repeated behaviour, responses may include a request to clarify or change conduct, removal of inappropriate content, restrictions on an activity or space, or suspension or removal of access. Urgent restrictions may be needed to protect participants while a concern is reviewed. You can ask for a review by replying to Community Support with relevant context.

General support has no fixed response-time guarantee. Applicable privacy-request deadlines still apply.
